This reinforced concrete 10-storey hotel, constructed in 1963, was destroyed by a fire in January 1993. To accommodate two big tourism events, the World Tourism Organization (WTO) and Pacific Area Travel Association (PATA) conferences, the Ministry of Travel, Post and Telecommunication placed an order to re-open the Hotel in October 1993.
The refurbishment included a major renovation and providing structure for the new hotel lobby. The project was completed within 6.5 months, including the design phase.
Davy Sukamta & Partners was commissioned to undertake structural engineering services on this hotel including the following works:
- Carrying out a structural appraisal of the fire-damaged building, including assessing the degree of fire-damage and investigate the compliance of the old structure to the current Indonesian Building Code.
- Providing a retrofitting scheme.
- Designing a new structure for the new hotel lobby.
The total construction cost was 37 million USD
