The Peak @ Sudirman is a prestigious apartment complex located in the Jakarta CBD, comprising a total of four towers: two 35-storey and two 55-storey towers respectively.

These apartment buildings have a reinforced concrete structural skeleton which was designed to withstand the gravity, the wind load, earthquakes, and other environmental effects.

From a structural point of view, the 55-storey building is a very slender structure, and it challenged the structural engineers to come up with an innovative solution to provide stability to the building. With a slenderness ratio of 1:8, the stiffness of the building was the predominant factor in the design, as the occupant’s comfort during the strong wind was taken into strong consideration.

The Peak @ Sudirman has been designed to withstand a 500-year earthquake based on the New Indonesian Seismic Resistant Design Code for Buildings SNI 03-1726-2002, and a rare 100-year wind. We used the facility at the Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel Laboratory in Canada to predict the behaviour of the building under strong winds and proved that it will respond satisfactorily. The top floor acceleration during a 10-year wind is 9.6g, well within the international criteria to ensure the occupant’s comfort. It uses a high-strength concrete of 55 mPa and it sits on 1.2-metre concrete bored piles, with an allowable compression load of 570-660 tons.
